Utilising Tai Hang's historical tapestry as our muse, community spaces as vibrant canvases, and the bonds of community as inspiration, collaborating with visionary artists, architects and the local community, "small valley TAI HANG" create different types of travel experiences, inviting you to join our tour and be a part of this remarkable journey.

GETTING HERE

Located on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, Tai Hang is in between Tin Hau and Causeway Bay. You can refer to the following different transportation to visit Tai Hang~

After arriving at Tai Hang, you can visit the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Heritage Centre to receive information and supplies for the "small valley TAI HANG" event.

Tin Hau Station - Exit B

Exit from Exit B and go up to the ground level. Cross Gloucester Road and walk along the roads surrounding the Queen’s College. Walk towards the inner street (Tung Lo Wan Road/Fire Dragon Path). It will take approximately 3-6 minutes to reach Tai Hang. 

 

Causeway Bay Station - Exit F1

Exit from Exit F1 and go up to the ground level. Walk along Jardine's Bazaar towards the Regal HongKong Hotel, turn onto Tung Lo Wan Road by taking the footbridge. You will arrive Tai Hang after passing through the Tung Lo Wan Road Sitting-out Area. It will take approximately 15 minutes.

small valley TAI HANG has invited a total of five artists and art groups (Tim Chan, Max Cheng, Hira Hira, Zoe Siu and To Wun, Louis) to create over 20 artworks for the community. They adopted traditional craftsmanship into their contemporary art creations, which are scattered over the corners of the community. In addition to appreciating the artworks, the guided tours will introduce the artistic and creative attractions in the Tai Hang community. ※ Pre-registration required

Tai Hang Factory No.1 Journey of Art Across Chrono

"Character Blossom" was a folk gambling game during the Qing Dynasty, which was brought to Hong Kong from Guangzhou a hundred years ago. In the 1930s, "Tai Hang Factory No.1”, the largest "Character Blossom" factory on the Hong Kong Island, was located in Tai Hang. The curatorial team has designed a community exploration game using the narrative method of "Character Blossom". Behind each location along the route lies a hidden tale of history, the public can decide to explore the community on their own or to join the guided tours to explore Tai Hang. ※ Pre-registration required

Louis To Wun x Tim Chan: Honouring the Past and Inspiring the Future Parade & Music Performance

Inspired by the auspicious beasts closely associated with the Lin Fa Temple, contemporary artist To Wun, Louis has created a new hybrid mythical creature. He skilfully combined traditional bamboo weaving techniques with contemporary painting styles, creating an agile dynamic structure. Through vibrant performances, he infuses his artwork with life, shedding lights on the cultural traditions inherited from the previous generations and spreading the blessing to Tai Hang.Louis, together with composer and percussionist Tim Chan, will present two parades with the hybrid mythical creature. An interactive session is designed for the audiences to participate in the performance. ※ No registration required. Feel free to jump in!

FAQ

Arts in the City: small valley TAI HANG is a project presented by Hong Kong Arts Development Council and curated by Making on Loft. Themed on “Journey Across Chrono”, three different community travel routes that encompass aspects of arts, community and history are designed. Local residents and artists are invited to create captivating art installations, allowing visitors to embark on a cultural journey through time and space in Tai Hang, embracing their own rhythm.
From 10 November to 10 December 2023.
While the workshops and guided tours are mainly held over the weekends, we welcome visitors to drop by during weekdays. You are invited to obtain leaflets from our information points or to visit our website. Select the routes you are interested in, including the Self-service Route, Art and Cultural Route and the Aesthetics in Architecture Route, and be ready to embark on a cultural journey through time and space in Tai Hang.

Visitors who stop by on weekdays can also obtain exquisite postcards at the information points. You may also send them to friends who are not able to participate in "small valley TAI HANG"~
The exhibits, routes, and all activities of "small valley TAI HANG" are open to the public for free. To minimize material waste, workshops and guided tours require a deposit of $100 upon registration. If participants attend the activities as scheduled, full deposit will be refunded. If participants fail to attend the activities without notifying us in advance, the deposit will not be refunded.
You may apply through our website. Limited quota will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Apart from the “Honouring the Past and Inspiring the Future” Parade & Music Performance and the Tai Hang Sharing Session, all activities must pre-registered through our ticketing platform. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time and bring along the confirmation e-mail for registration, to ensure smooth operation of the activities.

If there are any available slots on the day of the event, you may register at our information station at the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Heritage Centre.
If you are unable to attend an event upon registration due to unforeseen circumstances, please contact us via email at least two working days prior the event. If you fail to attend the event without notifying us in advance, the deposit will not be refunded.
As some of our activities will be held outdoor or require the participants to make use of tools, it is recommended for individuals aged seven to participate. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian.
Most activities will be conducted in Cantonese. Foreign visitors are welcome to bring their own interpreter to participate in the activities. Additionally, there will be a special English session for the "small valley TAI HANG" Art and Cultural Guided Tour. For more details, please refer to the "Programmes and Activities” page.
Please arrive at the venue earlier on the day of the event and provide your email address or relevant information to the Arts in the City Ambassadors. They will assist in retrieving necessary information for you.
Typhoon Signal No.3 or above and Red & Black Rainstorm Warning Signal:

▸ If the signal is hoisted 3 hours before the event, all on-date programmes will be cancelled.
▸ If the signal will be hoisted during the activities, all on-date programmes will be cancelled. Visitors will be advised to leave the site under safe circumstances.
▸ If the programme is cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, no substitute time slots will be provided.
