"Journey of Coral Exploration & Restoration in Tolo Harbour" Seminar

DESCRIPTION

When you think of corals in Hong Kong, what comes to mind? Hoi Ha Wan or Tung Ping Chau? Do you know that Tolo Harbour was once a sea of corals?

The Coral Academy from the School of Life Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong has been dedicated to restoring the degraded coral communities in Tolo Harbour, aiming to rejuvenate the marine ecosystem. How can corals be restored? What can we do to help? Researcher from the Coral Academy will share insights in this seminar, discussing the current state of coral ecology in Hong Kong, the threats it faces, and the joys and challenges of conservation work.

Coral Academy focuses on coral conservation, restoration, and public education. The Academy aims to enhance public awareness of Hong Kong's rich marine biodiversity and environmental issues, with a particular emphasis on coral communities. It fosters emotional connections between participants and local coral ecosystems through hands-on experiences like coral adoption, propagation, nursery maintenance, outplanting, and field monitoring. Additionally, the Academy promotes pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors, empowering participants to become champions of coral conservation.
