Promenade Journal — Hill Road Roller Coaster

DESCRIPTION

A century ago, Shek Tong Tsui was known not only for its entertainment culture, but also for Tai Pak Lau, one of Hong Kong’s four major amusement parks, one frequented by writers, cultural figures and celebrities.

Drawing on this history of urban leisure, artist Swing Lam brings the imagined thrill of Tai Pak Lau’s amusement rides to the Hill Road Flyover today. Participants will move along the flyover’s distinctive S-shaped route, weaving between the buildings above what was once the district of entertainment. Through his signature open-top bus tours, the artist recreates a roller-coaster experience within the city.

Key Routes:
Central to Sai Wan | Retracing the route once taken by Shek Tong Tsui’s rickshaw pullers
