DESCRIPTION
Behind the entertainment past of Shek Tong Tsui a century ago was a vibrant entertainment landscape shaped by rickshaws, restaurants, entertainment places, music, amusement parks, and the people and trades connected to them.
Using the walking map of Promenade Journal as a point of departure, artist Swing Lam turns the city into a game that can be played. Following the artist through Shek Tong Tsui, participants will revisit its food culture, streets and once-vibrant nightlife, while uncovering historical clues hidden around the street corners. With the journal in hand, participants can wander and play through the city, experiencing the composite entertainment world of Shek Tong Tsui as it was a century ago.

Swing Lam
Swing Lam Siu-wing is a Hong Kong artist and writer, and currently works as a lecturer. He is the author of the illustrated novel The Signal Hill’s Tales and the study of transport enthusiasts The Secret World of Transport Enthusiasts. His writing and visual work have appeared in publications including Ming Pao Sunday and Fleur des Lettres.
With a longstanding interest in the city and transport, he is the initiator of “Urban Rollercoaster”, an open-top bus project that offers passengers a rollercoaster-like experience through the urban landscape.
