Tai Hang Architectural and Heritage Guided Tour

DESCRIPTION

Architectural styles evolve with the times, serving as tangible records of society and historical development. Architectural researcher Dr Charles Lai will lead participants through the streets and alleys of Tai Hang, tracing the neighbourhood’s transformation from early traditional Hakka village houses and pre-war tong lau (tenement building) of the early 20th century to the modern urban architecture of today.

As participants stroll through a neighbourhood where the old and new intertwine, they will examine how these diverse architectural styles reflect Hong Kong’s cultural identity and economic changes, while engaging in dialogue within the urban fabric. The tour will also explore the value of heritage conservation and the adaptive reuse of historic buildings.

Join us to discover the imprints left by different eras and experience how they coexist and overlap within the unique community of Tai Hang.
