Tai Hang Flavours Handmade Incense Workshop

Tai Hang is not only known for its Fire Dragon Dance, but is also a small neighbourhood where local delicacies and everyday warmth gather. In this workshop, artist Max Cheng will lead participants to preserve the everyday flavours of this small neighbourhood in a stick of incense, and to experience anew the warmth of life in its streets and lanes through the sense of smell.

As we wandered through Tai Hang, we carefully collected local materials that carry everyday flavours: used tea leaves from cha chaan tengs, infused with the spirit of Hong Kong-style milk tea, and speciality coffee grounds from cafés that awaken the morning. These ordinary yet familiar scents record the daily rhythms of Tai Hang and represent the most authentic human touch of this small neighbourhood.

Participants will become scent travellers, kneading and blending natural handmade incense materials by hand. They will preserve the everyday warmth and daily memories of Tai Hang within their own stick of incense, and bring this unique handmade incense home.
