Tai Hang Mythical Creature Paper Mache Workshop
DESCRIPTION
Whenever we travel, we may make time to visit local temples or historic shrines, offering sincere wishes in the hope of bringing good fortune home. In fact, among the ancient Lin Fa Temple and century-old buildings of Tai Hang, mythical creatures and folk tales that quietly watch over the community have long been passed down.
Hira Hira, a creative team specialising in paper-mache art and sculpture, will lead participants through the traditional craft of paper mache. Over two hours of slow and careful making, participants will shape their own guardian creature, inspired by the tales of Tai Hang, by hand. This little mythical creature in the palm of the hand can become a warm blessing and form of protection for oneself, one’s loved ones, friends, or even beloved pets.
Each Tai Hang mythical creature possesses its own unique “blessing power” and community story. Besides shaping this palm-sized happiness by hand, participants may also bring their mythical creature along to explore the legendary stories of Tai Hang!

ARTIST / PARTNER
Hira Hira was co-founded by Zi Ying and Yan Lam in 2015, with members Sharon and Wing Yi.
The Japanese “ヒラヒラ” means “astatic”. Hira Hira is a drifting grocery store who likes to find, create and share beautiful things.
The team focuses on creating traditional folk toy ornaments like “paper-mâché figures” and “papier-mâché dolls”. Their work explores how to give a new life to the most abundant resource around them—“discarded paper”—turning it into unique, beloved art pieces.

※ Persons aged 8 or above are welcome to participate. Participants aged under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. All persons admitted to the venue, including accompanying adults, must hold a valid ticket.
