Yim Sui-fong “Songs Wandering through Sai Wan”

The childhood stories heard through interviews lead the artist on a fantastic journey through Sai Wan. Through interviews, workshops with residents, field research and collaborative songwriting, Yim Sui-fong transforms the everyday memories of Sai Wan residents into three children’s songs: one begins from imagined trips to buy groceries in earlier days, connecting the streets and everyday life of Sai Wan through different voices; one moves through the staggered staircases and levels of Sai Wan Estate; the third gathers the words of greeting exchanged between neighbours. Yim Sui-fong's Songs Wandering through Sai Wan revisits memories of Sai Wan through children's songs. Presented in the Belcher Bay Promenade is the numbered musical notation for Shopping at Sai Wan's Nine Markets, evoking the bustling streets and market stalls of the past, and imagining the sounds of people and animals encountering one another in the city.

The complete artwork is on display at the Hong Kong Resource Centre for Heritage until 30 November 2026. All are welcome to visit.
